The summer season (in South Africa) is a time for celebration, a time for giving thanks for all we have and a time for spreading joy and goodwill to those around us. It’s a special time of year when we can come together with our loved ones to share in the cheer of the season.
The festive period is also a great opportunity to reflect on the past year and look forward to what lies ahead in the coming months. We can take this opportunity to think about our successes and failures, our hopes and dreams, and plan how we can make next year even better than this one.
The summer season brings with it many traditions that have been passed down through generations.
From decorating the Christmas tree with baubles and tinsel to carol singing around candlelight, these traditions help us connect with our past while also bringing us closer together as a family or community.
One of my favorite winter traditions is baking Milktarts and making a good ‘ol Trifle. Not only does it fill my home with wonderful smells but it also brings back fond memories of childhood Christmases and spending time with my family (usually in the Kitchen).
Of course, no festive season would be complete without a visit from Father Christmas himself!
Every year I look forward to writing my letter to Santa Claus asking him for presents (well worth a try!). I also love leaving out milk and cookies as an offering on Christmas Eve so that Santa knows he’s welcome in our home!
Finally, no matter how you choose to celebrate this season – whether it’s gathering around with friends and family or taking part in traditional activities – don’t forget to take some time out for yourself too!
Enjoying some peace and quiet away from all the hustle and bustle can be just as important as joining in on all the festivities!
So from me to you – Seasons Greetings! May your days be merry & bright!
